Ingrown Hair Treatment

By

Ingrown hair treatment is a remedy for a sometimes painful condition where the hair grows back into the skin. It is a condition which more commonly affects people with curly hair. It is sometimes known as "razor bumps" although the medical term is pseudofolliculitis barbae. A hair that requires ingrown hair treatment has usually started to grow back into the skin or it may have been caused by a hair which has grown out through the skin instead of out through the hair follicle, this is commonly caused by shaving. It most commonly appears around areas of the body that has been shaved such as the face, under arm region, pubic area, or the legs. In reality an ingrown hair can appear anywhere on the body.

Anything which can cause the hair to be snapped off underneath the skin can cause the sharp tip to go out through the skin. This sometimes leads to painful inflammation.

Ingrown hairs can sometimes be painful and irritating but if they are left alone they can actually be the cause of infections. They are quite a common occurrence in people who shave but fortunately the ingrown hair treatment is very straightforward.

Ingrown Hair Treatment

The first thing that you should do when you think you have an ingrown hair is to make sure that you have identified that the bump or irritation as an ingrown hair. A lot of the time you can see the hair underneath the skin with a good magnifying glass, sometimes this is not the case. Just because you have a painful bump in your face, or on some other area of your body, it doesn't mean that you have an ingrown hair. They actually look like a small pimple and can contain pus so they can be mistaken for simple acne.

One of the easiest ingrown hair treatments is to apply a warm damp cloth to the area around the ingrown hair for a few minutes. This is the best ingrown hair treatment because you do not need to visit your doctor or purchase ingrown hair medication. This will soften the skin and the hair underneath. It would also bring the ingrown hair close to the surface so that you can easily apply the ingrown hair treatment. If you have been applying the damp cloth to the face for over 10 or 15 minutes and you cannot see the ingrown hair below the surface of the skin then there may be something else that is causing the inflammation.

Once you can see the ingrown hair beneath the surface you can use a pair of tweezers to gently manipulate the ingrown hair until it pops out. You may want to get somebody else to do this for you, some people have great difficulty in manipulating a pair of tweezers especially if they're using a mirror to do so. You have to be very patient here that you did not break the skin. You should also try to use a pair of tweezers that has points at the end which will be less damaging to your skin and can be much easier to manipulate.

You can also buy ingrown hair treatments either in your local drugstore or over the Internet. A quick visit to your physician should clear up whether or not you have an ingrown hair. If you find that the problem is happening quite often or you are getting ingrown hairs over a large area of skin then you might consider chemical ingrown hair treatments or laser ingrown hair treatments. Laser hair removal for ingrown hairs is quite a common practice.
